Avengers: Endgame Runtime Revealed

The Avengers: Endgame landing page on the AMC Theaters website has revealed that the film will have a runtime of three hours and two minutes. Three hours and two minutes! Let that sink in a bit. If true, Endgame will be the longest-running movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will also be the first to run longer than two and a half hours, surpassing Avengers: Infinity War by 33 minutes.

As Endgame was nearing completion earlier this year, we began hearing rumors that the movie was going to be longer than any Marvel movie up to this point. Director Joe Russo did little to quell the rumors when he commented to Collider “We’re still at the three-hour mark.” Keep in mind though that this was in February. There was still a lot of work to be done in editing. But the Russo brothers did say that Disney would be up for a three-hour epic if it was needed.

I think the studio is down with what the best story is. Right now, we think the movie is playing well and we’ve had great responses from our test audiences and we’re feeling very good about where it is. We’re still doing work to it. We’re not done with it. Again, this is a culmination film of 22 movies, it’s a lot of storytelling to work into it. Emotion is an intrinsic part of that to us. When you have to tell a really complicated story and you want strong emotional moments with the characters, it just requires a certain amount of real estate. This one, in particular, feels like three hours worth of real estate.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously said that Endgame isn’t going to be restricted by a predetermined running time. Instead, the film will be released at the “perfect” length. He told Collider earlier this month that “We’re gonna release the movie at the exact right running time. I’m telling you this, it’s gonna be perfect. It’s gonna be the exact running time that the movie needs to be.”

And if you’re worried that the film might be too long, Anthony Russo thinks that you’ll be okay. “We have screened the movie four times for audiences now. For the first three screenings, not a single person got up to go to the bathroom.” You may want to go easy on the soda though.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26.
