The First New Star Wars Film Has a Director, Sort Of…

With his new Man of Steel only a few months away director Zack Snyder has lined up one of his next projects.  The 300 and Watchmen director is in final negotiations to direct a Star Wars film according to Vulture.  However, this new film will NOT be one of the already announced episodes VII-IX.  Snyder’s Star Wars movie will be a stand-alone story set within the Star Wars universe.  This film will be inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai.  It is not yet known where this new film will fall into the chronology.  No other information is known at this time, but I for one am excited at the prospect of the Star Wars universe actually being used.  Whether this will be a theatrical release, straight to DVD/VOD, or even if it will be live action or all CG will be announced in the months to come, but for now, let’s be happy that Star Wars is not going quietly into that good night.

  1. Unfortunately, these will probably be the movies that my kids will take to more. We are working on indoctrinating them into the original (4,5, & 6) series, but who knows. My son does like the LEGO Star Wars games.

  2. It reminds me of how my father introduced me to James Bond movies and always reminded me that no matter who the new guy is, Sean Connery Bond is the “best” Bond.
