About ten years ago my roommate insisted that watch his favorite Japanese anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion. While it was rife with religious symbolism, political intrigue, human drama, and tough questions about who actually fights the wars started by old men, it was, by and large, a story of people inside giant robots fighting monsters. Eventually, I watched it and overall found myself enjoying it, not to the extent perhaps my roommate had wanted me to but nonetheless, it was fun. In the ensuing decade, I’ve often found myself wondering, “Why hasn’t anyone made a live action movie?” Well, now that question is moot as Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro has given us Pacific Rim. This is the movie del Toro left The Hobbit to direct. I dare you to watch this trailer and question that decision. Also, is that GLaDOS I hear?
