Monsters at Work, an animated series based on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., is being developed for Disney’s Disney+ streaming service.
The series, which is set to premiere in 2020, takes place approximately six months after the events of Monsters, Inc. If you remember the ending of the original film, the Monsters, Inc. power plant now harvests laughter from children instead of screams, generating ten times more energy in the process.
The show will follow Ben Feldman’s Tylor Tuskmon, an eager and talented young mechanic on the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team who dreams of working his way up to the factory Laugh Floor to work with his idols, Mike and Sulley.
Monsters at Work will feature many familiar characters from the Monsters, Inc. films, most notably Mike and Sulley. And yes, Billy Crystal and John Goodman will be returning to voice their iconic roles. They won’t be the only members of the original cast to be returning though. John Ratzenberger will reprise his role as Yeti, Jennifer Tilly returns as Celia Mae, and Bob Peterson will voice Roze, the twin sister of the original film’s Roz.
In addition to the returning characters, the series also features some newcomers. Kelly Marie Tran will play Val Little, Tylor’s lifelong and confidant. Henry Winkler will provide the voice of Fritz, a scatterbrained boss. Lucas Neff will be Duncan, an opportunistic plumber. Alanna Ubach will voice Cutter, an officious rule follower. Stephen Stanton will portray Smitty and Needleman, a bumbling custodial team. And Aisha Tyler will voice Tylor’s mom, Millie Tuskmon.
Disney+ goes live sometime this year. Monsters at Work is scheduled to premiere on the streaming service in 2020.
