Meet Brec Bassinger as Stargirl

The DC Universe streaming service took the spotlight today at WonderCon. During their panel, provided fans with their first look at Brec Bassinger in the role of Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl in the TV series that will launch on the service in early 2020. Like some of the characters on Doom Patrol, the costume is extremely accurate to the source material. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise though considering writer/producer Geoff Johns created the character in 1999 as a tribute to his sister who died three years earlier in a tragic accident.

When the series was announced, Johns had the following to say regarding the character:

There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor, and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.

The series is produced by Berlanti Productions and Mad Ghost Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. In addition to writing the first episode, Johns will also be the showrunner.

Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.
