Why Couldn’t the Movies Look like That?

New Trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic just came out.

I get that the universe of Star Wars seems to endure the same cycle of power all the time, and that the same battles just get waged over and over again, but don’t you think this looks a little . . . old? In KOTOR things looked different; ships looked like a different design, clothing looked like a different style, droids seemed slightly less advanced. It was a long time before the movie series, so they had to make it look like it!

Supposedly this happens in the same era . . . so why do the capital ships all look like Star Destroyers? Why are the fighters all TIEs? Why does the shuttle look EXACTLY as it did in the prequels? As awesome and utterly kick-ass as that trailer is, it just feels like “Star Wars: We Don’t Have to Pay People For Their Likeness” and not “Star Wars: The Old Republic”.

  1. I actually was going to post this but you beat me to it. That said, this is freaking amazing. Granted, this is probably a cinematic cut from the game but it’s still amazing. It gives me hope for the future of Star Wars and the insanity of George Lucas.

  2. It’s the opening cinematic from the game to be sure, but if that is the type of world that the game is going to be in I may find myself cancelling my WoW subscription. It also proves that no matter what you put out there, geeks can find something to bitch and complain about. I want my Star Wars game to look like Star Wars. If the ship design is a little lazy, then so be it. I wanna get my Sith on.
