The Mini Console market is getting a new piece of hardware. Konami announced that they are going to release a miniature version of the 90’s Console of the Turbografx-16 and calling it the Turbografx-16 Mini.

While Konami didn’t produce the original console, it was developed as a joint effort by NEC and Hudson. Konami became the parent company of Hudson back in 2005 and then absorbed all its operations in 2012. This means Konami owns the brand and all of its properties.

Only six titles have been announced for the Mini console with more titles to come late. The titles, however, differ between regions.

Japanese

  • R-Type
  • Ys Book I & II
  • New Adventure Island
  • Ninja Spirit
  • Alien Crush
  • Dungeon Explorer

USA/Europe

  • Bonk’s Adventure
  • Dracula X
  • The Kung Fu/China Warrior
  • Ys I & II
  • Super Star Soldier
  • Dungeon Explorer

The Ys Games and Dracula X were not games released on the original Turbografx-16. The games were CD-ROMs and released on the Turbografx-CD. This indicates that games in the CD-Rom format are slated to be included in the lineup.

Konami during the announcement didn’t give any information regarding the Mini consoles pricing or release date. However, Konami did point out that they are going to accommodate the console’s different histories across regions. The console had various different names and designs in other regions, similar to the Nintendo Entertainment System. So Japan and Europe will have the PC Engine Mini available instead of the Tubografx-16 Mini.
