When the first poster for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released in December, we were horrified. What was up with Sonic’s legs? Did he get calf implants? And those fingers? Where are his gloves? What nightmares does that silhouette truly hide?
We may now have our answer to that last question.
Hamagami / Carroll, Inc., an advertising agency that specializes in entertainment industry art and branding, has apparently leaked a branding deck for the upcoming live-action film. However, despite the page having been removed, the images already made their way into the wild.
Also, we should point out that it doesn’t look like HCI actually had a hand in redesigning the character. It looks like their job was to produce new universal packaging and marketing materials so that different versions of Sonic can be similarly marketed and presented.
In addition to the images, the deck also included branding descriptions indicating that Sonic was “chill & likable” and “irreverent & sarcastic.” This reminds me too much of that episode of The Simpsons where they introduce Poochie. Does the branding team on this project know anything about Sonic the Hedgehog or are they just throwing out buzzwords?
Of course, none of this is confirmed until we see get a trailer so take it all with a grain of salt. It does look pretty likely though.
Sonic the Hedgehog runs into theaters in the US on November 8, 2019. The film opens in Australia on November 28, 2019, and in the United Kingdom on December 26, 2019.
