The Kids Just Don’t Get It
I was watching Transformers Animated with my step son the other day, and found myself enjoying it. At first I felt dirty (any way you cut it, the animation is worse than those horrid Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons), but I realized that the writing was actually pretty good.
We watched a second episode, and I found myself really liking a new character . . . Wreck-Gar!
Now, I know who Wreck-Gar is, or rather, was. He was on planet Junk in the original film. Originally voiced by Eric Idle, he wasn’t so nice when we first met him.
While I knew exactly who he was supposed to be, there was something about this version of Wreck-Gar that I was standing out more than I expected. Then the following bit of dialogue came up:
Ratchet: “You wouldn’t dare! That’d destroy the city! Nobody’s THAT stupid!”
Wreck-Gar: “I Wreck-Gar DARE to be stupid!”
That’s right; Weird Al playing a Transformer, referencing one of his own songs that was playing in the background during the scene where his character is fighting in the original movie. Follow all that?
I was laughing, but the kids just told me to shush so they could watch the show.
Heeheehee! I have owned the soundtrack to the animated Transformers movie twice! First on cassette – which I wore out, and now on cd. I regularly make “archival copies”, so I don’t have to try and buy it again. =)
