Greetings to all Students and fellow staff!
I’m sure you’re wondering, “What the heck has happened to the Starfleet Academy Podcast lately?”, especially since it’s been over a month since our last post. To put it in a nutshell: life. Here’s the scoop…
The major pieces of Episode 005 were recorded before the Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience in April 2014. At that time, we were preparing to attend the event, and everyone was going in all directions. I myself had promised a friend I’d help out with a costuming item that *had* to be done before the event and so, unfortunately, I put editing on the back burner.
Worst… mistake… ever.
Don’t get me wrong, I was glad to help out my buddy. However, I misjudged my timing and Episode 005 was not completed before the event.
We professors had a great time at SLCC FanX (and I hope you did, too). We were able to get lots of great interviews and photos… but again, Episode 005 was not completed.
A week later, I got a new day job.
I’ve said before that we professors are just regular people with regular jobs. Some of us, like me, even have two of them. In my case, I changed jobs from an industry I don’t care for to a technology company that I am really excited about. However, this also cut into my editing time, especially since my commute is much longer now. Additionally, my shift is completely different from what it was before, and now we are trying to find a different time when we can get together for recording purposes.
To top it off, my second job (which I also love) is heading into the busy season.
But enough of real life woes, you want to know the status of Episode 005!
Episode 005 nuggets have been recorded and pieced together with the school bell in between classes.
The background has been updated to an engine room noise instead of the TOS Bridge, as that was a concern for some of our listeners.
The filler content we record to introduce the classes and give the trivia questions has been compiled, but still needs to be cut into the correct spots.
Because it has been so long since our last post, I need to record some additional information and splice it into the podcast correcting a couple of things (like due dates for the trivia question answers).
In other words, I’m nearly done editing. However, I felt the need to let you know what is going on before I finish.
Thank you for your patience,
Professor Trekkie Jill,
Co-Host/Sound Engineer … slacker??
