On March 4, 2022, the Minecraft movie will hit theaters. Yeah, that’s still a ways off; however, we can break it down to make it seem not so distant. It’s only 1053 days. Nope. That didn’t work. 34 months. Dang! 150 weeks. Well, anyway we look at it, it’s still years away. But hey, it’s news about a Minecraft movie, and Minecraft is still somewhat relevant so we’re bringing it to you.

Directed by Peter Sollett (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist), and brought to you by Warner Bros., the movie tells the story of a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers. After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.

Movies based on video games generally don’t do very well but there’s a lot of time between now and the time that the film is actually released so who knows what things will look like that far into the future. By the time we get to 2022, it could be that only movies based on video games do well. Who knows? The question is: will Minecraft still be relevant by then? I know that my 9-year-old still can’t get enough of the game even after all these years, but when he’s 12 will that have changed?
