If you are a geek, you know what LCARS are.  If not, just know that (thanks to Star Trek), it’s what everyone thinks of when they think of a futuristic computer interface.  It’s been emulated on websites and handheld GUIs everywhere.

Well, I’ve found a new favorite interface, and I think it’ll be a lot easier to get used to (though not as affordable as I’d hoped).

The Optimus Maximus Keyboard at ThinkGeek.com (cool name too).  I know what you’re thinking: “it’s just a keyboard with some cheapo looking keys.”  And that’s why you fail.

Those keys are actually OLEDs!  Each and every one has a programmable display in it, so you can program any key to be whatever you want.  Many times on the fly!

I see this evolving to be even more simplified; think of a programmable keyboard with a multitouch screen (like an iPhone’s) on the side, with screens that change depending on the app you are using!

Now, if anyone wants to hook me up with something this awesome, I’d be much obliged.  Maybe the flux capacitor too.

Wow… Almost $1600. I wish that I had that kind of money to spend on a keyboard. The vehicle that I use to commute with didn’t even cost that much.

  • I’d rather have the programmable buttons on the keyboard than the touch screen that MS wants. Too many stupid people out there that I don’t want touching the monitor.

I HATE people touching my screen. I have three kids that can’t keep their sticky fingers off of it. That’s the reason that I still use CRT monitors instead of LCD.
