At Star Wars Celebration held over the weekend in Orlando, we learned some new details about Disney’s upcoming Star Wars lands set to open in 2019 at Walt Disney World in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in California. Most interestingly, representatives from both Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm said that guests will be able to control their theme park experience by choosing to side with either the Resistance or the First Order.

We’re not exactly sure what it means to control your experience, or how this will even be accomplished, but Pablo Hidalgo from Lucasfilm mentioned that technology will allow guests to “build a reputation” inside the Star Wars Land. Unfortunately, he neglected to reveal how this will be done. At this point, our best guess is that the RFID technology currently used in MagicBands will be utilized. It should be noted that MagicBands are only available at Walt Disney World so if this turns out to be true, it would mean that they are headed west to California.

The Disney Parks Blog also posted some additional information, including this short video that was shown during Saturday’s panel.

If you want to see the entire panel, we have that for you too. Enjoy!
