This year marks the 25th anniversary of Bruce Timm’s hugely influential masterpiece, Batman: The Animated Series. The show that is arguably the standard to which all other animated superhero shows are compared.

Over the weekend, Bruce Timm, series producer Alan Burnett, and voice artists Kevin Conroy and Tara Strong gathered at New York Comic-Con to celebrate the show’s legacy. During the Q&A portion of the panel, a Warner Bros. representative, Gary Miereanu, held up a DVD box set of Batman: The Animated Series that he would be giving away. He then announced that this would be the last time that Warner Bros. would be giving away a set on DVD because a remastered Blu-ray version of the beloved series is scheduled to be released “later in the year” in 2018.

Unfortunately, not much more is known at this time. I’m personally hoping for the entire series in one set as opposed to the different volumes that the DVD was released with. But the good news is that we’re getting Batman: The Animated Series on Blu-ray. The bad news is, we have to wait until the end of next year for it to arrive.
