Over the past few weeks, there have been a lot of rumors regarding Ben Affleck’s departure from the role of Batman in the DC Extended Universe. If you’re not familiar with these rumors, basically Affleck, who has already played the iconic character of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Suicide Squad and the upcoming Justice League, is rumored to be unhappy and will be phased out. However, whether that takes place during Flashpoint or handled in some other manner remains to be seen.

But all is not lost! There is news that Warner Bros. and Affleck have made nice! A South African based website called Fortress of Solitude recently ran a story indicating that Affleck has signed on to reprise his role as Batman for three movies directed by Matt Reeves. They report:

According to a source from Warner Bros., Ben Affleck has signed on to appear in Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy. Reportedly, Affleck will assume the mantle of the Dark Knight for at least three more films, with the last leading towards a Batman Beyond film, which will kickstart the next phase of the DCEU.

“Yeah, he [Affleck] is staying on as the Batman. There were contract issues, but everything’s sorted now. He’ll do Reeves’ trilogy which sets up Batman Beyond, which will be the next phase of the DC film universe,” the source says.

This is good news for fans of Ben Affleck’s Batman, or is it?

Even though the story has been widely reported, it seems very likely to be false because it has been not been confirmed by either Warner Bros., or by any more credible industry websites such as Variety. Personally, I would think that if Ben Affleck had signed on for three more movies of this caliber, it would be huge news that would be widely reported.

To make the legitimacy of the report even more questionable, the very reliable fan site Batman News points out that the author of the article is “Edward Nigma” – the alter ego of Batman’s adversary The Riddler. Coincidence? Perhaps. But maybe not.

Ultimately, time will tell if Ben Affleck continues to play The Dark Knight on the silver screen. We do know though that he’s in Justice League which hits theaters this November, and he’s scheduled for one more film after that.

What do you think? Are these rumors true? Do you want to see Affleck continue to play Batman in the DCEU?
